What’s the Deal with The Sheep Game?

I’ve been a member of a Duke message board, The Devil’s Den, for, wow, twelve years now. On site is an of-topic board where all kinds of non-sports things are discussed. There’s a game that’s been played there now and then called The Sheep Game. The way it works is you get a number of questions. Everyone who plays answers the questions, and you get points based off of how many people have the same answer. So for example, if the question was “Name a primary color” and 20 people were playing, it might break down like this: 10 people said blue 7 people said red 3 people said yellow The 10 people who answered blue get ten points, the …

Addy’s Seventh Birthday Weekend

Most Milly weekends start out when I pick her up from school on a Friday afternoon.  This Milly weekend started out at about 7 AM when I picked her up from Amanda’s and took her to school.  I was a WatchDOG dad today, meaning I got to hang out at her school and help out around there. WatchDOGS I love doing WatchDOGS.  DOGS stands for Dads of Great Students.  It’s a volunteer program where a dad (or father figure) helps out around school for a day.  This was my fourth time or so and I signed up to do it once every month this school year.  Milly really likes it too, which of course makes me feel good. First we …

Clothes Rack Discovery

You know how you start on one project and that leads to another and then you end up spending a lot more time doing something than you intended?  Well, I mowed the lawn this morning, then I swept the hardscapes, then I decided to cut back some of the overgrown bushes and such in the back of our yard, which was a pretty big undertaking.  I’ve still got a good bit to do with it, but it looks so much better than it did before.  What I did do required a good bit of sawing and hacking.  I felt pretty good about it when I was done.  Amanda pulled some weeds and planted a few things in the front, including …

Amanda’s Night Out

We started the morning by going to check out a pre-school near our house that I think we’ve pretty much decided we’ll be taking Milly to in the fall.  After that we went to Lewis Farm to pick strawberries.  Milly doesn’t like them as much as she used to though, and she wouldn’t try any out in the field, so I didn’t get any pictures of that this year.  It set me back with work a little, but going out to Lewis Farm is a bit of a tradition. For her birthday, Amanda and some girls went to a winery.  They were going to come back to the house and play Just Dance, but instead they went to Rio Bravo’s …

Wings Contest Runner-up

I suppose it’s one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. There was a leaders meeting at Port City Community Church tonight, and before it got started Paul Klouse came around and asked if Amanda or I would volunteer for a hot wing eating competition.  I said I didn’t even really like wings all that much and I didn’t like hot food, but Amanda did so she reluctantly agreed. When they were asking for volunteers Amanda raised her hand.  I pointed her out in order to make sure she’d be seen, but the person on stage took it as me volunteering her, so I got called up too.  Given what I already said, I didn’t think I’d do well. The …
