Milly’s First Trip Downtown

We still didn’t get a good night of sleep last night, but I think I found a method of putting Milly down to sleep that works decently well.  After Amanda feeds her I swaddle her, turn on the bear with the heartbeat sounds then lower her slowly to her cradle.  Each step of the way I stop and listen/feel her breathing to make sure it’s regular and calm.  It’s not rocket science or anything. Amanda and I went downtown with Milly today, her first trip to downtown Wilmington, to get a registered copy of her birth certificate at the register of deeds. I found myself a little disappointed that the ladies in the office didn’t really give much attention to …

My First Father’s Day

As I write this I’m sitting in bed at the end of my first father’s day with my two best girls: my wife, Amanda and my daughter, Milly. We got to bed about 10:00 last night.  Amanda and I held hands and said a prayer, thanking God for the gift of our daughter and asking his blessing on her.  We also asked for guidance as parents and patience for the tough nights. We got up at 6:00 and got ready for church, making it early to the 8:30 service.  Milly isn’t big enough to go to Grow Zone- you’ve got to be six weeks for that, but she did great with us.  She slept through the loud music and didn’t …

Happy Birthday Jason Revill

Today is Jason Revill’s 31st birthday.  He’s my oldest friend.  Not in terms of age- I mean, he’s only 31, but we’ve been friends since kindergarten.  I hope you have a nice day, buddy. I got up this morning and mowed the lawn.  Well, I was going to mow the lawn, but I couldn’t get my mower to start for anything.  I ended up borrowing Bonnie and Dave Narron’s mower from across the street.  I only mowed the front lawn, but when I took the mower back I noticed the knob holding the left side of the frame you push with had come off and I spent some time looking for it to no avail. Kyle and Lorin Van Zandt …

Milly’s First Shopping Trip

We had another good night of sleep last night.  In fact, we went ahead and woke Milly up at about 3:00.  She was a little fussy at the time, but she wasn’t fully awake.  Amanda figured it would be better to go ahead and get her started on a feeding before she was full-on crying.  She woke us up herself around 6:30.  We went back to sleep and woke up again around 9:00.  Just like yesterday, Milly’s been eating every couple of hours. I did a bit of work in the nursery today, hanging up a thing Amanda’s grandfather made so we could put up the mobile, putting up a couple hooks and two curtain rods to hang the curtains …

Milly’s Big Surprise

Remember how I bragged yesterday that Milly only got us up a couple times her first night home?  Her second night was nothing like that.  I think she woke up wanting to feed every hour, and since Amanda’s not able to lean over to pick her up out of the cradle yet, not to mention that she’s slow to move around on the bed due to the c-section surgery, we both had to get up every time.  It was miserable.  At about 7:00 or 8:00 I took her downstairs to sleep on my chest. Despite this, my new daughter continues to astound me when I look at her.  Somehow, Amanda and I made this new little life.  She moves and …
