Not Dakota’s Birthday

Milly came into our room at about 1:30 this morning and told us she wanted to go downstairs to watch TV.  She was very upset that we wouldn’t let her do that.  I was sitting on the floor holding her and explaining it to her and, tired, I told her she could get in bed with us.  Or maybe Amanda did.  Either way, she slept with us for most of the night.  Keep in mind that we didn’t get in bed until sometime after midnight after playing Catan with Reece and Stephanie. Anyway, I thought Milly mainly did alright.  She did put her knees in my back at some point, and I think she scratched my back.  At another point …

“Is Ryan Kelly Still Injured?”

Family spent time playing in bed this morning before getting up.  Amanda made eggs and biscuits.  During breakfast Milly asked me to read (which means tell) her a story about Spider-Man.  When Amanda and I were talking about watching the Duke game later, Milly asked me, “Is Ryan Kelly still injured?”  She’s really latched onto him.  And yes, both of those things made me such a proud papa. Spent most of the day watching basketball.  Duke beat Florida State by 19.  Would have been more, but the second strong was in for a good chunk of the second half.  Mason Plumlee didn’t play much after getting two early fouls, so for Duke to play like they did at Florida State without Ryan …

Gross Stuff You Probably Don’t Want to Read

When I went to bed last night I noticed that my stomach was a little upset and thought about taking a Tums, but I was already pulling the covers up over my shoulders at that point, and nobody like to get out of bed at that point, you know? I don’t think a Tums would have helped anyway.  I woke up at 3:00 feeling a little queasy, and by the time I got to the bathroom I knew what was going to happen, so I just went for it.  Amanda woke up and asked if I was alright or if I needed anything, but there wasn’t much she could do for me.  I mean, it’s not like I have long …

Welcome to the World, Ayden Hauenstein

Congrats to Justin and Lisa Hauenstein on the birth of Ayden late yesterday.  All I know from Facebook is that Lisa was in labor for 26 hours before having a c-section (very similar to Amanda) and that the kid was about half the size of his mom at 21.5 inches, and weighed in at 9.5 pounds.  Poor momma- Lisa’s so little to have been carrying that giant baby around.  And he wasn’t even due until Saturday. So I realized yesterday that I was missing my rings.  I usually wear two- my wedding ring and what I call my training ring.  I had never worn a ring before, so before we got married Amanda bought me a silver ring with a …

Kick-Ass with Adam

My brother mentioned wanting to go see the movie Kick-Ass the other day, and after church today he texted me the movie times, so we met up this afternoon and went to see it.  We both really liked it.  I had read the comic it was based on and Adam had read the first few issues.  There were some pretty noticeable differences, but there was nothing that made me dislike the movie because of it.  One of the major things is that in the movie the main character, Dave, gets the girl, whereas in the comic he got pretty badly dissed.  It makes sense because it’s a Hollywood movie. Where the movie was a little softer in some ways (and …
