First Father’s Day with Three Kids

Aptly enough, I got to spend a lot of time with my newest children this morning. They were awake and fussy from about 3:00 on. I guess I shouldn’t have talked about how well they did the previous two nights. Tristen got Phoenix at some point and I got Fawkes a little later. She switched with me, I think because she was able to give them some boob to calm down, but then Phoenix started thrashing around, doing that body-stiffening thing babies do that makes them flop around like a fish out of water. At some point I took him back to their room and changed his diaper, which was a little wet, but not too bad. I found some …

Milly’s Ninth Birthday Party

I would first like to say, before we get into the birthday stuff, that Fawkes and Phoenix have had two nights in a row where they’ve improved their sleep. I woke up to Fawkes making some noise at 5:59 AM. I put his paci back in his mouth, figuring it wouldn’t really last, and got to sleep until 6:11. Glorious. Tristen said she had gotten up once after their late night feeding, but it’s such an improvement over getting up every few minutes starting at 4 AM, putting them in bed at 5, and hardly getting any sleep until we all get up at 6. This was one of those days where we had a lot to do, but it was …

Milly’s Ninth Birthday

Milly was born at 1:10 AM on this day nine years ago. It was Tristen’s idea, and she remarked that if Milly happened to get up at like 3 AM to go to the bathroom and open the door, it might be terrifying to have things unexpectedly fall on you in the dark like that. We took that chance. Fortunately, Milly didn’t open her door until about 6:30. I heard her get out of bed and had the …

Four-Month Checkup

I suppose I could have held off on the four-month update to include the four-month checkup, but I did not, mainly because it would have been after their four-month birthday, so it wouldn’t have been very precise, would it? The boys are doing great. They both weigh in at 12.8 pounds, up 0.6 from just over a week ago when we weighed them at Tristen’s parents’ house. Fawkes is 23.75 inches and Phoenix is 23.5. That’s the first time ever that Fawkes has measured above Phoenix, although as close as it was, it could have just been that Fawkes didn’t have his foot quite flat. Compared to other kids their age, they’re both on the chart at about the fifth percentile, …
