Half of Shutter Island

Amanda’s mom, Karen, came by the house tonight.  She and Phil, Amanda’s dad, were going to come tomorrow, but Phil couldn’t come until later in the day and Karen wanted to get more time with Milly.  We went to Flaming Amy’s for dinner then went by Toys R Us to look at some present ideas for Milly’s birthday.  She was a little overwhelmed with all the stuff there though, so we didn’t get a good read on what she liked that we had thought about getting her. We didn’t realize it, but we didn’t leave Toys R Us until almost 8:00, Milly’s bedtime.  She went down after we got home then we decided to watch Shutter Island on Netflix.  I …

Black Falcon Down

This requires a little explaining.  On the Duke message board I go to, Harrison Barnes is often called The Black Falcon.  I don’t know if he actually gave himself that nickname, but he has a necklace with that on it.  Deriding him for his oh-fer performance (which I mentioned yesterday), someone made a play on the movie Black Hawk Down by saying Black Falcon Down.  Inspired by that, I put Barnes’ head on the poster for Black Hawk Down.  I wouldn’t bother sharing it, but I was really proud of the Photoshop job I did with it, particularly matching the coloring on the face to the original. After eating breakfast with my girls, the first thing I did was go …

Milly and the Flower Pot

Amanda slept in a bit today.  I don’t think she got up until around 10 or so, maybe a little later.  I had a good time with Milly in that time though.  Phil had gone to the church to help with something there, so Milly and I strolled around the yard a bit.  Amanda’s parents live out in the woods, so it’s a bit different from the neighborhood she’s used to walking around in. Off the sun room Karen and Phil have a porch with a few different tiers on it.  Milly and I were on the lowest tier, which is maybe a foot off the ground, and she was playing around with a flower pot, picking things up and …

Our Sixth Anniversary

Six years ago, on an extremely rainy Saturday afternoon, Amanda and I got married. I kicked off our anniversary celebration by waking up at about 8:00 and heading over to my brother’s apartment.  Actually, I went to his last apartment, which is right down the street from his more recent apartment, because I’m an idiot and forgot that he wasn’t in that one anymore.  To be fair, I think I’ve only been to the more recent one enough times that I could count the visits on one hand. Anyway, Adam was moving, and he’d already gotten most of his stuff moved so I just helped him clean for a couple hours.  I did a good job on his kitchen and …

Nick Dethroned

A huge weight off our shoulders, Amanda decided to celebrate by cooking homemade macaroni and cheese and invite the Warkentiens over for dinner.  Amy brought some sort of coffee cake for dessert that was really good. Of course, they brought Yahtzee, the game du jour, with them.  Nick wrote on Twitter that he was going to whoop me, Amy and Amanda.  I Twittered that I had already gotten second and last out of four, so I was aiming for third.  Well, Amanda won this time, followed by Amy, followed closely by me, then Nick.  So Nick Warkentien, reigning Yahtzee champion, has been dethroned by my lovely wife. While all this was going on the subject of drawing on each other …
