Eleven Months of Twinning

Fawkes and Phoenix hit eleven months today. I celebrated by dropping them off with their Nonny and Pappy. It was a productive day. Summer Sands had some renovations after the Hurricane Florence and needed some updated room pictures. Since my mother-in-law is the manager, I was able to coordinate dropping the boys off with her after their first nap so I could go take care of that. Craig, the aforementioned Pappy, was at the hotel and left a parking ticket on my windshield as a joke. I was pretty confused about it until I went to ask Earl, who was manning the front desk, about it. I had noticed that the license plate number on the ticket wasn’t mine, but …

Milly Dotsey and the Boy Who Lived

I started reading Harry Potter books to Milly when she was in Kindergarten, going on five years ago now. I remember the first few nights of reading it, snuggled up in my bed in the townhome-style apartment we lived in for a year. It wasn’t very long at all, I think the second night I read to her, when she volunteered to start reading it. I remember being impressed with her ability to read words like “muggle” and “Dumbledore” without missing a beat. Since we only read on the weekends she stayed with me (and a bit more during summer vacation), it took a really long time to get through the books. Eventually, I can’t remember with which book, I got …

Mall Babies

Phoenix is the one in the foreground in this picture, but Fawkes is in the background. First of all, I would like to give a shout out to someone who seems to be a fan of the site. I got a text message from a friend who has been going through some tough times, and I was told that on more than one occasion, this person clicked a link to this site from Facebook, read it and kept clicking on other stories at the end of that one. They said, “your blogs, I think more so your writing itself, not necessarily the content, are very peaceful for lack of a better word…. Maybe it’s the distraction of getting lost in the …

Dining Room Demo Day

Today was kind of a tough day, to be honest. It started out as many days where I stayed up late the previous night do, with Tristen getting ready for work, me peeking at her in my half-sleep, and her giving me a kiss as she leaves the room. Well and good so far. Side note: sometimes she doesn’t latch the doorknob when she leaves the room. She shuts the door, but you have to make sure it latches or the cat, Magic, can open it, which is what happened this morning. I was cognizant enough this morning to pull the sheets over my head and make sure my hands weren’t poking out. If anything had been uncovered he’d have …

Meeting My New Nephew, Gabriel

My new nephew Gabriel is here. His mom went to the hospital to hurry him along on Wednesday, which was a pretty busy day for me. Milly, Fawkes, Phoenix, and I went to the former Sears at the mall to get some disaster relief. Considering how many people were there, it moved along pretty well. It was a little stressful having all the kids, well, the babies, with me. I had them in the stroller and ended up giving them some pouches to eat while we were in the first part of the line. Milly was very helpful handling them in the stroller while I worked on filling out paperwork. After the initial line we were in a sitting area. …
