Milly’s First Birthday Party

Milly’s first birthday is Monday, and so we celebrated today.  I was up mowing the lawn at 8:20 and followed that up with a bit of outdoor cleaning while Amanda and Karen took care of things inside.  We were pretty much finished by 1:00, which is when people started arriving.   Actually, most of the family members who came showed up a little early.  My crew arrived at about a quarter of, and I was shocked to see Aunt Robbie with them.  I remembered after talking to her that she had planned on being around a little before Milly’s party, but she was supposed to have gone back before today.  It was really great to see her.  Not that seeing …

Meeting Abigail

Sarah Erreca is a pretty fun name to say.  I just thought I’d start off with that. Amanda, Milly and I went to Richlands this morning.  Amanda’s old friend Sarah was in town for a baby shower tomorrow, which we obviously won’t be able to attend because tomorrow is Milly’s birthday party.  Amanda wanted to make sure she got a chance to see her and especially her new daughter, Abigail.  We met up with them, Mike (whom Sarah should thank for the gift of his last name, since it’s so fun to say with her first name) and Sarah’s sister at Red Robin in Jacksonville. I’ve only met them three times- once at their wedding, another time when we all …

Things We Got

Where did the time go this evening?  After work, Amanda, Milly and I packed into the car and went to Costco to buy supplies for tomorrow’s cookout.  We got a crapload of burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, green beans, sodas, a case of beer, chips and stuff to make some homemade mac & cheese.  On top of that Amanda made an excess of cupcakes for her jewelry party last week so there would be plenty for tomorrow. After all that we stopped by Chick-fil-A to pick up some dinner, went home and I unloaded the car while Amanda put stuff away.  The trickiest part of that was keeping Milly off the door so she wouldn’t fall when I came in …

Daddy’s Drama Queen

Milly is a total daddy’s girl.  She was sitting on the bamboo floor this afternoon and fell back, smacking her head on the hardwood floor.  Amanda picked up her and and she was screaming, but then she saw me and reached for me.  She stopped screaming as soon as she was in my arms.  Drama queen.  (Yeah, sure, a part of me loves it.) Amanda and I considered sleeping in just a little and going to the 11:00 service at Port City Community Church this morning, but that’s during one of Milly’s usual nap times so we (I, first, which is a bit of a departure from the Sunday norm) got up and got ready.  The series at church right …

Word of the Day: Patience

Amanda and I were blessed with the opportunity to exercise our patience muscles today.  First of all, we not only hit just about every light on the way to take Milly to her nine month checkup, we were also behind people who wanted to go under the speed limit most of the way there. Then we were at the pediatrician’s office for nearly two hours.  There was a special case of a sick kid that pushed things back, which is understandable, but it was getting past Milly’s normal nap time and we were running out of things to occupy her attention, so she was getting pretty fussy.  Even after that we had to wait a while for her to get …
