Introducing an American Christmas Tradition

On the matter of Milly’s potty training, I feel confident making this statement: When naked, Milly is completely potty trained. There were several times today that Milly used the potty all on her own with no prompting from me or Amanda. The last time this evening she didn’t even tell us she’d gone; Amanda just happened to see something yellow in the potty. She had a cloth diaper on twice today, and she peed both of those times, but not very much. I think she’d holding it. So the next phase is to get her used to telling us when she has to go, or get her comfortable using her pullups. She did ask for “pretty candy” today. I wasn’t …

Uncle Bobby

Amanda saw on Facebook last night that her Uncle Bobby, technically her great-uncle Bobby, being her grandmother’s twin sister’s husband, was in the hospital, possibly from a heart attack.  Amanda actually found this out before her mother, whom she called to talk to about it. When Amanda was on her way home today she told me that she’d talked to her mom and that Bobby had died. I’m not going to eulogize, really, because I didn’t know Bobby Greene all that well.  I saw him every year at Labor Day and Christmas, and a few other times now and then, here and there.  He went to NC State and was a Wolfpack fan, he liked to joke and nap and …

A Mayfaire Evening

Pretty sure Milly’s got or is getting a cold.  She’s been coughing the last few days, though she’s doing a decent job of covering her mouth, and she was a little snotty today.  Hopefully she’ll be okay a week from today when we go see Yo Gabba Gabba Live.  Hopefully Amanda and I won’t be sick either. I feel like I was pretty busy today, though I’m not entirely sure I could tell you with what, at least until I had a meeting in the late afternoon.  Scott and I had a conversation about company funding.  An interesting stat is that since 2007, the average monthly income from one-time charges such as website setup, maintenance and programming has continually gone …

Things Milly Did Today

Milly’s done a lot of entertaining stuff lately, and she was pretty much on fire today so I’m going to start this post by just listing things Milly has done today. Milly was awake around 7:30, but I ignored the fact and stayed in bed.  She settled down and I went to go get her at 8:00.   I usually knock on the door if I know she’s awake because she’ll laugh or screech and knock back.  She’d been quiet for a while though, and when she’s quiet it (usually) means she’s sleeping, so I like to slip in quietly and wake her up gently. Well, I couldn’t open the door this morning because Milly fell back asleep against the …

Thin Times

Karen brought a Time magazine with her yesterday and left it for me.  I remarked that I used to really enjoy reading Time.  My parents had a subscription when I was in high school.  I remember reading about things like the internet before that got big and how our homes would be wired so that when we got low on milk the fridge would order some for us and we’d be able to watch any TV shows and movies we ever wanted to by picking them from a computer in our living room.  One of those has already happened. I tell you what though, I don’t remember Time being so thin though.  I mean it really felt no thicker than a …
