Michael Mercer’s 28th Birthday Party

Michael wanted to eat at Outback for his birthday, so we did.  We had a nice time there at our local Wilmington Outback Steakhouse.  Good food, good service.  It was a decent-sized group: me, Amanda and Milly; his parents, Karen and Phil; his grandparents Peggy and Earl Lemons; uncle/aunt/cousins Barry, Anna, Hannah and Kirsten Frazelle; then of course Michael and his girlfriend, Jenn Greenawalt.  I love Outback, so I had been looking forward to this all week. After dinner everyone came back to our house to hang out and let Michael open his presents.  One of them was a Rio Grande game called Power Grid.  I’d looked at it before myself and was intrigued by it, but the box says it …

Strange Baby

Milly’s saying lots of phrases and sentences now.  One of them is “Rr raw ruh,” which is Millynese for “I love you.” She did a pretty funny thing this evening after we put her pajamas on her, which was to take several of her bathing suits and put her legs through them then start walking around.  I mean, she’s take one bathing suit and on leg through the holes in it, then do the same with another one.  Strange baby. Before putting her to bed, we also asked her, while in her room, where this stuffed animal or that one was, and she knew all of them by either name or type of animal.  We were pretty impressed. There was …

Pajama-less Milly

When I went to get Milly out of her crib this morning, I thought to myself, “Wait, we didn’t put pajamas on her last night?  Would Amanda have let her go to bed for the night without pajamas?”  Then Milly, as she usually does, handed me one of her blankets.  Then she handed me her pajamas. Yeah, apparently she completely unbuttoned her onsie pajamas at some point between 8:00 last night and 8:00 this morning and removed her clothes.  At least her diaper was still on.  Then again, after I posted this on Facebook I got a reply from Lisa (Robinson) Johnson, a girl I went to high school with, who said her daughter had done the same thing and …

Inception Outback

The title would have sounded more clever had I separated Outback into two words; then it would sound like there was an inception out back, like in the backyard.  But really I’m just describing the date night Amanda and I had. I had asked Karen last night how long she was staying, thinking she might want to watch Milly while Amanda and I went out.  She was planning on going home this evening, but while she and Amanda were out she told Amanda out of the blue that she’d watch Milly so we could go out tonight.  That was mighty nice of her. So we went out.  I finished working a little early and we caught the last matinée of Inception, which …

Hush

Milly was by and large a delight today.  We went to church and she got to play around a bit upstairs while Amanda and I finished getting ready to go.  She was a little fussy on the way home, but it was her naptime anyway, so that was to be expected. Amanda and I spent most of the day not doing anything, which tends to be symptomatic of a Sunday.  We considered going to the beach, but all day long it looked like we were about to get a thunderstorm, though nothing really ever happened. After I took a nap I went out to Best Buy after a nap to return a case I’d gotten for the iPhone 4.  I …
