Return of the Brucey Cuddle Time

Hurricane Ike hit Texas this morning and gas prices are up.  They’d been around $3.69 here in Wilmington, but I’ve heard that they’ve got up to as much as almost $5.00 in some places. It used to be that every Saturday morning we’d have what Amanda would refer to as Brucey Cuddle Time.  It’s when we would wake up and laze about in bed and Bruce would sidle up between me and Amanda in expectation of some serious belly rubbage.  We haven’t had that much lately, I guess because he and Harvey generally both get up and start running around before we do, but this morning I’d already put Harvey outside to pee and he’d wanted to stay out while …

Seven Years of 9/11

So, today was the seventh anniversary of the September 11 attacks.  I always get choked up watching footage of the people jumping out of the buildings and seeing the towers fall.  Just horrible. I’ve got to say though, there didn’t seem to be as much of a to do about it this year, and that’s probably a good thing.  It means that we as a nation have started to heal.  I don’t think anyone who was old enough to remember that Tuesday morning has forgotten or ever will forget it, but I think we’re moving past it. That’s not to say there was nothing on about it.  I had the History Channel on in the background all day, as I …

Return of Small Group

Work went by pretty fast again today.  I ended it with an hour long conversation about blogs and one of our bigger clients is going to install one.  I’m not sure why, but I get excited about installing blogs for people. After work I picked up around the house and vacuumed a bit and Amanda, when she got home, helped out and fixed some salad.  I went out to pick up some Little Caesar’s pizza for small group and as I was heading out the door Amanda asked me to fill up the gas tank.  I said I would, but I’d be going to Gogas because the Kangaroo doesn’t have the little clips on the pump handle so you can …

Nick’s Rendition

Hurricane Hanna who?  I stayed up pretty late last night and the power blinked a couple times, but that was about it.  I found three or so shingles on the ground this morning and there were a few small limbs down, but I don’t think anybody around here had any serious damage. We called up Nick and Amy Warkentien this morning to see if they wanted to go to Cracker Barrel, but they were already planning on making a big old breakfast there, so they invited us over for that instead.  Amy’s sister, Alysse Cuthbert (thank you, Facebook, for the spelling and last name- I couldn’t remember Amy’s maiden name, which actually came up in conversation this morning while fixing …

Hurricane (Tropical Storm) Hanna Midnight Update

There’s really nothing to report as far as Tropical Storm Hanna goes.  It’s not even really raining here and there’s not a whole lot of wind, although a Weather Channel guy at Wrightsville Beach said the wind was gusting up to about 55 miles per hour.  Hanna’s still off the coast of South Carolina. After breakfast-dinner Michael and I played NBA 2K9.  I got ahead by two points early in the third quarter, but he still ended up beating me by about 30. While we were doing that Amanda was watching some episodes of How I Met Your Mother on DVD.  Michael and I kicked her off of that and we all watched The Mist, which I’d heard good things …
