July 4 Weekend, 2015

Just about every Fourth of July was spent in Lexington, Kentucky when I was growing up.  Mom and Dad would pack us up and we’d drive eight hours to my grandparents’ house.  It was convenient because Baba was born on the Fourth of July and all my cousins were out of school, so it was a god excuse to all get together and it was generally the only time my extended family got together.  I’ve got countless wonderful memories of summers spent in Lexington. That house was torn down a couple years ago.  Pap died six years ago and Baba died just a couple months ago.  Sadly, the number of times I’ll go back to the city of my birth …

2012 Derby Party

It was a bit warm today, but I mowed the lawn anyway.  Last time I mowed was two weeks ago, but it looked like  a month. I learned something new about Milly after I finished, and that’s what she won’t give me a kiss while I’m all sweaty from working in the yard. Anyway, after mowing and getting some water I Went back out and swept up a bunch of leaves and clippings from the porch, the driveway, the sidewalk and the back patio.  We may mostly grow weeds and sand, but our weeds and sand look much better now. After Milly got up from her nap we went to Brilliant Sky so she could pick out things for her …

Mason Plumlee Returns

Mason Plumlee has decided to return for his senior year at Duke, which all Duke fans are happy about.  He was projected to go late in the first round of the NBA draft and might have slipped to the second and next year appears to be weaker, so with a decent to good year he could improve his draft status (and make a lot more money).  Had Mason left, there would be a big question mark in the center position.  Hopefully the team will work on getting him a lot more touches next season.  There were a number of games where you really, I mean really wondered why Mason didn’t get the ball more.  For example, when Duke lost in the …

Mr. Caterpillar

Amanda took Milly outside today and found a caterpillar to put in the little bug cage Karen bought for her a few weeks ago.  There was a stick and leaves for it and everything.  When we left for small group, she and Kirsten were playing with it out on the patio.  When we got home from small group, Kirsten showed us a video she took.  In it, Milly walked away with Mr. Caterpillar as she called it, then she sat down.  Kirsten walked over to her and Milly told her, “He is broken.”  I don’t know if she sat on it or if she pushed herself up with her hands while it was in her hand, but Mr. Caterpillar got …

Shooting Home

Not sure what time I got up today, but I did get to sleep in some. Felt fine, if a little swimmy still. No hangover. I never really did get hangovers. I can think of only one time that I ever did. Parents made breakfast for us all then there was a bunch of general hanging out. Milly, Addie and Rosa played great together. Jackson played well with them too. They kept going upstairs and once I found Milly all by herself trying to get into the top bunk. Might have been there a while because Addie came downstairs and told me Milly needed some help. Guys all went to the woods to shoot Dad’s .22 pistol and rifle. Jackson …
