Hurricane Dorian – The Morning After

Here’s the extent of Hurricane Dorian’s damage to our property: The same branch that was down last night was still down. And there were some sticks in the yard. Oh, and I noticed a smallish branch in the bushes outside our kitchen window. The satellite TV, though it got a little messy a few times while I was watching that Robin Hood movie last night, didn’t ever go out for more than a minute, and that only happened a couple of times. I took the drone out to check out a little bit of the neighborhood. My main goals were to check Johnny and Torrie’s place and the Hodge house. Both were fine, but as I was coming back down …

Hurricane Dorian Midnight Update

Hurricane-Dorian-Branch

Okay, so it’s a little after midnight. And sorry for the crappy picture; it’s a still from a video and it was dark and rain was blowing sideways at me. Anyway, the evening was mostly uneventful for me. I spent the time setting things up for a couple projects I’ve got going on. Tristen didn’t have it quite so easy. Apparently all three of our boys were pretty difficult, even with her mom and Torrie helping out. We chatted a bit after she put the boys down and texted right before she went to bed. She’d have called, but she was in the same room as Griffin, who was asleep, and she didn’t want to risk waking him. Tristen said …

Hurricane Dorian, Thursday Afternoon

Hurricane Dorian September 5, 4 PM from The Weather Channel

Just under a year ago, our area got hit by Hurricane Florence. As I type this, Hurricane Dorian is skirting our coast. According to the newscast on the TV right now, it’s pretty much due east of Charleston, South Carolina, and heading northeast. Wilmington is in the projected path, but the hurricane seems to be tracking a bit more east than was previously thought, which is good for us. That said, there have been tornadoes throughout the day and I just heard from Governor Roy Cooper that Wilmington has already seen nine inches of rain. I haven’t been too worried about this one. It destroyed the Bahamas, camping out over the islands as a Category 5, but it’s currently a …

Meeting My New Nephew, Gabriel

My new nephew Gabriel is here. His mom went to the hospital to hurry him along on Wednesday, which was a pretty busy day for me. Milly, Fawkes, Phoenix, and I went to the former Sears at the mall to get some disaster relief. Considering how many people were there, it moved along pretty well. It was a little stressful having all the kids, well, the babies, with me. I had them in the stroller and ended up giving them some pouches to eat while we were in the first part of the line. Milly was very helpful handling them in the stroller while I worked on filling out paperwork. After the initial line we were in a sitting area. …

Scooter Spill

Milly didn’t get up today until I went to get her up at 9:15. Karen showed up to take her out for the day at about 10. It poured really hard this morning and they ended up going to Krispy Kreme, Toys R Us, Brilliant Sky, the Arboretum and Brrr Berry. I did have to tell Karen we’re trying to watch what she eats a bit, but Milly had fun like she always does with her Nana. I went out to the bank not long after they left. Stopped by Target to return the bike pump I got yesterday that broke within a few minutes of buying it. Last at the exchange desk said she needed an item number and …
