Our -1 Mother’s Day

Yes, today is our -1 Mother’s Day, as Amanda will be a mother by next Mother’s Day and was pretty close to being one this Mother’s Day.  When the mothers were recognized at the 8:30 service today Amanda didn’t stand up.  However, we were there for the 10:30 service, and the lady who had checked kids into my Grow Zone room who happened to be sitting behind us encouraged her to stand, so she did. What were we doing at the 10:30 service if we’d just gone to the 8:30?  Well I’ll tell you.  Amanda and I were both doing Grow Zone today, but Christy Sikes, from our small group, was getting baptized at the 10:30, and to make it …

Upstairs AC

I could hardly keep off the phone at work today.  We got several new leads and I scheduled an impromptu lunch meeting with Lars to discuss a business idea he’s had a long time that he and Kaitlyn are exploring more in depth now.   I think they’ve definitely got some good marketing ideas. I thought about going surfing today but it was nasty outside and there was a call for severe weather, although it just rained a little bit and stayed ugly outside for a while. So here’s something really awesome.  For months now, I’m really not sure how long anymore, our upstairs air conditioning has not been working.  I think it goes back as far as when we needed …

The Second Baby Shower

Everyone in the house, Ben, Jessica, Amanda and I, we were all awake by around 7:30 this morning.  I can’t say as to why, it just happened that way. We decided to grab breakfast at Causeway Cafe, but that didn’t pan out because there were fifteen groups ahead of us on the list, and as small as that place is that would have taken forever.  Part of the reason I had suggested Causeway was because I have still been yearning for a cafe-style bacon egg and cheese sandwich with crispy bacon on regular bread, which yearning had yet to be satisfied.  So we trekked across town to Saltworks.  Oddly enough we seated ourselves with no problem and, along with a …

Shoe Molding at Last!

Last night was a rough one.  First off, since Karen and Phil Mercer were staying the night, Bruce and Harvey kept getting out of bed and going downstairs then coming back up.  Then, at about 2:30 it started raining really, really hard.  Amanda suddenly remembered that all of the shoe molding that we had stained (okay, she stained it, I wiped it) was still out on the front porch, so we got up, brought them inside and dried the strips off.  Fortunately, they didn’t warp. I spent most of the day installing the shoe molding with Phil.  We managed to tuck the cable wire under most of the molding through a combination of Phil shaving off some of the back …

Broken Toes?

It was rainy today, which is apparently how it has been for a while here in North Carolina.  I miss some things about Costa Rica.  I miss the breakfasts of coconut, pineapple, banana, egg, bread and juice.  I don’t miss not being able to flush the toilet paper and I don’t miss the mattress I slept on. I’ve been told by several people that Scott missed me at work last week.  My voicemail message said to call him, and the main toll free number for work was forwarded to his phone.  He said he ended up doing the thing I usually do during the day and the things he usually does at night.  Josh said that going on vacation for …
