You may notice a few changes on the website today. (A surprising number of people actually read this thing.) Since I use so many premium WordPress themes with work, I decided a while back to use the Twenty Twelve theme, which is the one that comes pre-installed with WordPress. Today WordPress version 3.6 came out, and with it a new default theme: Twenty Thirteen. So I made the switch.
I understand the reasoning for it, but they removed the sidebars by default. It’s not hard to put them back (just use the Secondary Widget Area in Appearance > Widgets), but it took me a bit to figure that out.
It also didn’t carry over my previous header images, so I uploaded some new ones. Right now they’re mainly panoramic pictures from Europe and Duke pictures. The new header area is larger as well, so I can’t even use the ones I’d previously uploaded. Maybe I’ll find the originals and re-crop them. Maybe. Probably not. If you hit the refresh button or go to a different page you’ll notice that the header image randomly changes.
Anyway, I took the opportunity to clean out a few old unused plugins and reorganize a few things. It was either fiddle around with my personal site, mess with my work site some more, watch something on Netflix or get back to playing Assassin’s Creed 3. Not that the other options weren’t appealing, but I didn’t want to make sure I got today’s (and yesterday’s which I wrote tonight) posts up. If I put them off on Thursdays and Fridays I usually end up putting them off for a week or so.
I didn’t get out of bed until almost 9:30 today, which was pretty awesome. That’s not entirely true; Milly was up around 7, so I got some food for her and fed the animals, but after that I got to stay down a bit. It was nice.
Amanda took Milly out school shopping for things on the list from her pre-school, but also to get some things for the Stuff the Bus program at church. That’a a thing where you buy school supplies that are donated to needy kids. Usually you just drop the stuff off yourself, but Grow Zone is doing a sort of “field trip” this weekend where the kids get to bring the supplies they bought and they’re going to take the classes out to the buses where they collect the supplies so they can experience donating the things themselves. I think it’s a pretty cool idea.
This, by the way, is the last Tax Free Weekend in North Carolina, thanks to our awesome legislature and the wonderful tax overhaul they rammed down our throats.
I, meanwhile, had a lunch meeting with a client. It wasn’t anything too crazy, just a review of service I’m providing, an explanation of a report and some new ideas of things to do.
I spent a good bit of time this afternoon and this evening finishing up the sliders for the redesign of my website. Now I just need to work out all my new pricing and content. It’s taken longer than I expected it to, but the new site has a lot of nice features.
Amanda rearranged Milly’s room today. The biggest thing was moving her cardboard house, which probably takes about a quarter of her room, to a corner. It only leaves one door and window usable, but it makes her room so much larger. When she was done Amanda told me that Milly was asking to play with me, so after a little bit I took a break to play with her for a few minutes. I had Naveen and two Minion toys from McDonald’s that Karen got her while Milly played with Tiana, Charlotte, a Barbie she called Suzie and a Polly Pocket that I think she called something else. They all chatted a bit then went to a dance. Naveen, player that he is, danced with all the girls.
Nick and Amy were going to watch Milly tonight while we went to a Wilmington Hammerheads soccer game with Amanda’s old suitemate (and friend) Robin, but throughout the day Amanda started feeling a bit sick. Hopefully she’ll feel much better tomorrow.
Before Milly went to bed I started teaching her a new thing, which sounds hilarious coming form her mouth: “If you’re having girl problems I feel bad for you, son. I got 99 problems but that ain’t one.” Radio edit, obviously.
Milly asked to cook in the air tonight. It all started with “run in the air” where I would start in my and Amanda’s room and carry her through the upstairs while she ran in the air. Then came “dance in the air” where I would lift her around and she would dance. Then a few days ago she came up with “cook in the air” which is where I carry her around while she makes motions with her hands like she’s messing with pots and pans and such. I love that odd little child.
Amanda and I caught up on Under the Dome then she went to bed.
