Today was Kelia Pless’s 30th birthday. I knew her in high school as Kelia Hester. We had a greed way back when that if we weren’t married by the time we were 30 then we’d get married. I reminded her of that yesterday in an e-mail and told her it was a good thing we were both married already because I like Wilmington too much to move back to Raleigh.
We woke up this morning around 9:00 and while we skipped the usual Saturday morning stuff (including showers since we were going to the beach), we dilly dallied around and finally left a little before 10:30 to go to the beach, stopping at Atlanta Bread for breakfast. The beach was really nice today. The weather wasn’t stifling hot and the water… ooh, the water. It wasn’t quite bath water, but it was very, very nice. Not cold at all. I got the white Surf City board and went out with my new rash guard while Amanda sat on a beach chair.
The water wasn’t the best for surfing, but I did catch a few waves. About half of them I nose dived on but some others I did ride and stand up. A lot of it was shore break and you had to Of course the more likely story is that there were just a bunch of jellies in the water, but it’s more fun to say I had a jellyfish stalker. I eventually came out, walked to the Oceanic Pier with Amanda and went back in without the board just to swim and jump waves a bit.
We went back to Casa Frazelle around 1:30 I think and headed on home to reconnoiter with Michael so we could all go do some Father’s Day shopping. We stopped and ate at PT’s Grille first then went to Best Buy to look at some MP3 players for Phil and ended up getting a nice but not too expensive Sony one for Phil. Amanda and I will look for something for my dad later, as we’ll just give it to him when we meet in Rougemont to go to Kentucky in a couple weeks.
After we came back we played Settlers of Catan, as we are wont to do. The first game was a really close one, but I won again. Michael won the second one and while it was a good one, it wasn’t as close. he was in a much better mood tonight.
Michael decided he wanted to shave his head, well, buzz it, so I did that for him. He and I kept telling Amanda we were going to do my head next, so she hid the clippers and gave me a haircut herself. I think it looks good, the short curls with the beard.
Michael went home and we took a shower then Amanda went to bed and I came down here to type all this out. We’re going to try to leave about ten minutes early for church tomorrow because Port City Community Church is going from five services- three live and two shown at Mayfaire from recordings of the previous week, back to the three, so we figure most of the people who went to the 8:15 Mayfaire service will be coming to the 8:30 service.
Michael may or may not go with us, and after that we plan on grabbing a quick breakfast and going to the beach for a little bit before heading to Beulaville for Father’s Day later in the afternoon. hopefully there will be something surfable when we get out there.
On a total side note, yesterday it was reported that Tar Heel Dancin’ Danny Green was pretty much a sure bet to come back to campus for his senior year. Today he said he still hasn’t quite decided. Tar Heel fans are waiting with great anticipation for what news they will hear on Monday, as that’s the deadline for players to announce for sure whether they’re returning to campus or declaring for the NBA draft. Ty Lawson is pretty much thought to be gone already, Wayne Ellington is up in the air and from the feedback he’s gotten Danny Green probably should come back, but he doesn’t sound like he wants to. Obviously I’d like to see all three gone.
