Karen came and took Milly to Michael’s, where they bought another bird ornament for the Christmas tree. Karen’s so funny about putting Milly down for naps. I think she hates to do it because she doesn’t want to be the bad guy, so I end up taking Milly upstairs and putting her down for her naps most of the time when Karen is here. Milly cried at first, but she stopped before we were halfway up the stairs and she went to bed easily.
Today was a pretty busy one. I did finally hang up my whiteboard though, so I think that will help me with task management.
The Warkentien kids came over tonight while their parents went on a scavenger hunt for small group. Nick said they hated to ask us because they knew that Monday is our long day, but they’d been looking for a while, so we did it. It really wasn’t that hard. Milly and Eli spent most of the night in the papasan watching Up and Ada is too small to get into anything yet. She did get a little fussy during the Duke-UNCG game, but I got on the floor with her and we watched it together. She’s a very smiley baby and I had a good time with her.
Amanda tried reading to Milly and Eli before putting them to bed, but they were too squirmy and distracted. Milly helped us feed Ada her bottle, but I think it was mostly a stall tactic to put off bedtime.
I didn’t have a good time watching most of the first half of the game though. Not that I ever thought UNCG was going to win, but they did get a five point lead a couple times. Duke just came off a week of not playing and taking exams, and Coach K even said before the game that he was a little worried about the team’s focus for the night. He did light into them a few times.
Of course Duke ended up winning 90-63. Quinn Cook was perfect for 14 points in the second half and Michael Gbinije looked pretty good playing some extended minutes. Five Duke players were in double digits, which is something I love about this team. Mason Plumlee got a double-double and Miles had 13 rebounds.
Now, you would think that I’d normally have something in my heart for UNCG, since I went there and all. Normally I would, but not with Wes Miller coaching. Wes Miller graduated from Carolina a few years ago and became an assistant coach there, what, last year? The head coach just recently resigned and I think this was the second game as a head coach for Wes. I just can’t get behind a recent Carolina grad as a coach. I’ll give them props for hanging with Duke for a good portion of the first half; they scrapped and really bothered Duke, creating a lot of turnovers and getting some nice transition points. I’d have normally been happy for them, but all I could think about was all the Carolina fans who would have been thinking how great it would be for little Wes Miller to get a win over the hated Coach K so early in his career.
I read that Kansas got beat by Davidson tonight. Come on, Kansas, you’re sullying Duke’s win over you!
Milly only peed in the potty once today, in case you’re wondering. It was this morning. She was out of the house or sleeping a lot of the rest of the day, and we weren’t going to work on it while watching three kids and a basketball game.
