I can’t believe it’s already been six years since the September 11th terrorist attacks. This morning MSNBC was showing the live coverage from that day as it happened, minute by minute. I think it was MSNBC. If it wasn’t MSNBC it was one of the 24 hour news channels. Anyway, it was real interesting to see all of the things going on- the conjecture, the rumors. When the first tower fell they didn’t even quite realize it. One of the news anchors said it looked like a section of the tower had fallen and they backed up the video. There was so much dust and smoke that it took them some time to realize that it wasn’t just a section of the tower, but the entire thing.
What else can you say about the whole thing that hasn’t been said already? I saw a news story online titled something like “How 9/11 Changed Us.” I thought it was going to be a story about what changes have been wrought for the country as a whole, but it was about individuals. Don’t get me wrong- individual stories are fascinating to me, but that wasn’t what I wanted to read at the time.
I had a nice gym workout I think. I went a bit faster than I usually do on the treadmill and mixed up my ab workout a bit. Other than that I did arms. I’ve lost a couple pounds, too. Okay, maybe a pound and a half.
Amanda was upset to discover tonight that her going-to-sleep TV schedule had changed. Normally she goes to bed at some point during the 10:00 hour, turns the TV to Fox and sets it to turn off after a while. The news is on from 10:00 to 10:30, then comes Everybody Loves Raymond followed I think by Friends and Scrubs. She’s usually asleep by then, but there’s also an episode of South Park, another episode of Scrubs and then Seinfeld (then Becker, Blind Date and infomercials, but she’s never awake for all that). It’s really a pretty good lineup. Well, it was anyway.
Now there’s the news, TMZ (a new celebrity gossip show based on a celebrity gossip website- I think it’s supposed to be “edgier” than shows like Extra), two episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond, Family Guy, Malcolm in the Middle, Seinfeld, King of the Hill, another Seinfeld, That ’70s Show, South Park then the infomercials. That sucks! More Seinfeld is nice, but no Scrubs? I’d gotten to the point where I was actually liking Becker a little. Plus, by the time Becker came on I knew I really needed to be getting to bed, and if Blind Date had come and gone I knew it was really time for me to get to bed. Now the infomercials don’t come on until 3:30. What kind of warning system is that for me? WSFX Fox 26, you’ve really screwed up!
I saw earlier that a few episodes of The Office were coming on TBS, which was a surprise to me. I mean, the show hasn’t been around that long- three seasons and the first was only six episodes, so I didn’t have any idea that it would be on in syndication anywhere yet. When I first saw it on the guide I figured it was just NBC doing a few back-to-back episodes, but it was on TBS. So Amanda put the TV on that.
I saw a trailer for the Iron Man movie today (or was it yesterday?). It looks good. Robert Downey, Jr. is cast as Tony Stark and from what I could see he plays a good, smug, rich asshole like he should. Great casting. The trailer ends with a bit of the song Iron Man. In our e-mail discussion, my cousin David Cherryholmes and my friend Rick Titus liked that fact. I thought it was obvious and cheesy, but didn’t mind. It bothered Jason Revill and was the only thing he didn’t like about the trailer.
The trailer was a pretty long one and showed quite a bit. It showed the original Iron Man armor and the sleek red and gold Iron Man armor. Personally, I was most impressed with the big, clunky gray armor. I mean the red and gold is nice and sleek, and it was cool to see it outracing fighter jets, but the old armor just had a nice, sold, real look to it.
