Today Amanda and I celebrated eight years of marriage by dropping Milly off at Reece and Stephanie’s to play with Jacob then going to Olive Garden and Boombalatti’s. After we got home we put Milly down and watched last night’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. Exciting times, I know. My parents called later in the evening and said there was nothing wrong with that and that we should save up and do it up on the tenth anniversary.
We, or at least I, did some reflection throughout the day and at dinner I asked Amanda what she thought the best thing we did was, aside from having Milly. She threw out buying a house, but then realized that wasn’t the best thing. Not that we regret buying our house, but the value is way down and we could have gotten one for much less if we’d waited a few years. Plus there was pains like leaky faucets and such that have to be taken care of now and then. Of course, I guess that’s the case with most houses. Anyway, we both ended up agreeing that moving to Wilmington was the answer.
The rest of the day was another day. I worked, Amanda worked. I actually spent a good chunk of the morning fixing up minor issues with the site I was working on up until 3:00 last night (this morning, what have you). The client was very happy with the end result though, and that’s what it’s all about.
Oh, Milly drew a happy face on my iPhone today. I’d have saved it, but she erased it too quickly. She’s drawn faces before with chalk, and she’ll get me or Amanda to draw circles on our iWhatevers so she can fill in the faces, but this was the first time I’ve seen her draw one entirely on her own.
I had a meeting today with some Venue clients I’ve known for years, but never actually met. After that meeting I decided to stop by Best Buy to look at iMacs. I’ve been thinking about getting one to be my primary work computer. It’s been pointed out to me that I could get a computer with better specs, including a nice giant LCD monitor, for half the price, but as I’ve been doing some research I’m really liking the stability of it and how easy they are to operate. I also talked to a client of mine who recently switched from PC to Mac. She said the learning curve is a little tough if you’ve been entrenched in using PCs for a long time (like me), but that everything seems to be so much smoother.
Two other factors have me heavily leaning towards it. One is that operating system updates are only $30 (compared to $100+). The other is that you can run Windows on it anyway (with additional software), so you get the benefits of having a PC anyway.
Apple computers are currently on sale at Best Buy, plus they have 18 months no interest, plus I can get 5% back with a Reward Zone card. The downside is that I can’t do a free upgrade to the keyboard with a number pad or switch the mouse for a trackpad, but with the sale price and the money I’d be getting back, plus the ability to pay it off in 18 months with no interest (and the fact that I do have enough money in my business account right now to buy one without financing anyway, should I need to pay it off ahead of time) has me thinking I might go pick one up tomorrow.
After we picked Milly up after our dinner she wanted to hear The Sun has Gone Down and the Moon has Come Up in the car, so Amanda hooked my iPhone up to the car stereo and played The Distance. Every time it got to “The sun has gone down and the moon has come up / And long ago somebody left with the cup” she would get really excited and say, “Did they say it?” She’s gotten to where she’ll sing along to some parts. Every time the song got to the part that goes “She’s all alone / ALL ALONE! / all alone in a time of need,” Amanda and I would both turn our heads to her and shout, “ALL ALONE!” so I expect she’ll start doing that at some point.
