I’ve been telling some people that I got a promotion today. Almost everyone I’d told that said, “What do you mean? You work for yourself.” This is true. I had someone referred to me yesterday, had a meeting with them today and offered up an idea for a service I’ve been wanting to roll out for a while. They liked it, and it’s sort of a big deal. It’s a large amount of steady income, at least as long as they see the results of the work. To say I’m excited about it is a very large understatement.
My goal, even before today, is to get 20 clients on this service. That’s kind of the ultimate goal. More would be great, of course, but 20 is just the goal. 10 would be great. My first goalpost is just three though. With three I’d be comfortable telling Amanda to quit her job and stay home with Milly, helping me out part-time. With six I think I’d hire an employee, possibly get a small office. Anyway, that’s all down the road, but at least it’s started.
Oh, and we’re looking into getting health insurance finally. Milly’s been covered since she was born. Amanda hasn’t had it since she went part-time when Milly was born. I haven’t had it since… I don’t know. Six or seven years?
Milly and Amanda went to the Masons’ this morning. Callie had a princess tea party for her and Milly. Milly wore a princess dress and took one of her Disney princesses. I was a little surprised at her choice of Jasmine since her favorites are usually Rapunzel and Tiana.
I did get the stuff sorted out with Jeff Gordon regarding my Escape’s upholstery. I texted Baker to ask him if he’d had any luck getting his manager to bend, but he texted back that he couldn’t get him to go more than half at $240-some. I was just about to go into my meeting, so I called him back when I got back to the house. I didn’t get an answer, but I did leave a pretty stern message. At least for me it was. I mean, I’m a pretty laid-back guy and I don’t get riled up too often, but I was getting pretty irate about this whole thing. I reiterated the points outlined in yesterday’s post and said I’ve really enjoyed his service, but if I was going to have to pay $400 out of pocket (including the sunroof cover, which wouldn’t have been covered by the dealership) I was going to share my disappointment on Google Places and Yelp and the like. I feel like that was kind of a puss move, but I wanted to let them know.
I don’t know if that made a difference or not, but I did get a call back from the sales manager shortly after that. He said he found another place to do it for $300 and asked if I’d be okay putting in $50. I was fine with that, so I feel it was resolved to my satisfaction. Well, assuming it all goes fine. I’m dropping it off on Tuesday morning and they’re giving me a comprable loaner. It should be done later that day, but I told them they could keep it Wednesday too so they could go ahead and inspect a knocking noise I hear every now and then when accelerating. I don’t think it’s a big problem, but it’s better tog et it checked now while it’s covered.
I talked to Jason for a few minutes this afternoon. He’s taking online courses to do medical transcription. It’s been a while since we’ve had a chance to talk.
In light of my promotion I told Amanda I was taking her out to wherever she wanted to eat tonight. She originally chose OC, but we couldn’t find a babysitter on short notice (not one that could watch Milly here anyway), so we just went to Olive Garden around 5:00 instead. I really enjoyed our dinner. The food was good, the service was good. Milly was in a really good mood. I just felt really good.
It was a good day. I mean, I just felt really good about things in general. I guess having a little more financial breathing room helps. I should say that having an increase in certain monthly income lightened the load of the world’s weight on my shoulders.
We just kind of hung out most of the rest of the evening. After Milly went to bed Amanda said something about watching something besides Breaking Bad. I think in part she’s trying to spread out the final season because we’re almost caught up to the show’s airing. The other part is that I think she wants to do something besides watch Breaking Bad every evening.
We watched Breaking Bad.
