Milly woke up at 7:00 this morning. After demanding to be released from her room she cheerfully told her mother than the sun was up so she could be awake. We’re going to have to really start focusing on getting her to look at the clock.
She let me sleep for the most part, which was mighty nice of her. After I got up, and after I got her some breakfast and made sure she was content downstairs, I took a shower upstairs. She came up while I was in there and did who knows what, but at one point she came running into the bathroom crying. It took me a moment to realize she had to poop, so I helped her get on the toilet and all that. I was proud of her and told her she could go get a Reece’s Cup from the fridge. She knows where they are and how to get them. I love the fact that I can tell her to do something like that and she won’t get more than she’s supposed to, or that she doesn’t get them when she’s not supposed to.
When I got out of the shower and was about to head downstairs I heard Milly saying something about cleaning up her mess along with “Oh man” a few times in an exasperated tone. When I got downstairs I found that she had been cooking. That is, she took things from her play kitchen and mixed them together in the play kitchen’s pot and had them sitting on the ottoman.
Now, our ottoman had a top that can be taken off and flipped around for use as a sort of tray, and what happened was that one of Milly’s ingredients was water, which she got herself from the real kitchen sink. She had cleared everything off the ottoman and was wiping water up with a thoroughly-soaked tissue. It was pretty adorable, I’ll admit, and I love that she was trying to clean it up by herself. I got a paper towel and finished it up for her before going back upstairs to finish getting myself ready for the day.
When I came back down Milly was talking about her footprints. I had to change my viewing angle, but I could make out wet footprints on the floor going from her kitchen to the couch, which means she’d split some water I didn’t know about before, so then I cleaned that up. (After making footprints of my own at her suggestion, of course.)
Milly was pretty playful throughout the morning. At one point she had me come into the living room with my eyes closed to reveal to me that she had fixed me a surprise treat of plastic toy food in a pot with water. Later on she had me help her make some of the same.
I heard Milly making noise during nap time, so I went up to check on her, only to find she was doing her Big Splashes, which is where she stands on a pillow and just falls straight back onto the bed. I let her do a few hen told her she needed to settle down and rest. I think she actually did sleep some today.
I had a meeting that I left for pretty soon after Amanda got home. I thought it went pretty well. Amanda and Milly took Bruce to the vet to get a growth on his chest checked out, but fortunately it was nothing. I left again soon after I got home to meet with State Farm about setting up an HSA account, so that’s now taken care of, or it will be when Amanda stops by there tomorrow to give her signature.
It actually took a bit longer than expected because a fax never came through. The lady who was helping me, Pam was her name, and I waited for probably half an hour before she called and was told that it looked like it had sent from their end. She was then shown where she could print the requisite papers from her computer since it was now in the system. At least Pam and I got to know each other pretty well.
We had a new couple at small group tonight. They didn’t seem too shy about speaking up, and it was on the heady subject of Hell, so I found that very encouraging.
When we got home Kirsten regaled us with tales of watching Milly. She said when it got dark outside that Milly, likely in an attempt to stave off going to bed, told Kirsten that it wasn’t nighttime, that it was just a dark day, and when Kirsten disagreed with her Milly gave her, in my words, a kind of WTF look and stance. Out three-year-old is already a teenager.
After Kirsten left Amand and I watched the season premiere of Modern Family. We watched the first three seasons all back-to-back a few months ago, and I didn’t realize how much I missed that show.
