I woke up in the office last night with the TV and the light on and I decided to head upstairs to get in bed. As I walked down the hall I realized I’d left the living room light on as well, and as I turned the corner to walk towards the stairs I realized that not only was the front door open, but the storm door was being held wide open as well.
I was immediately stricken with a pang of fear- I’d left the front door open with the light on and someone had come into the house and probably taken who knows what. My next thought was that the dogs, Bruce and Harvey, might have gotten out and there was no telling where they could have gone or how we’d find them this late at night. My next thought was that whoever opened the door could very well be somewhere in the house- hiding somewhere or maybe upstairs, where Amanda was sleeping.
For a moment I thought I must be dreaming because I remembered having gone upstairs already, but then I thought that must be a dream because here I was, standing in the doorway, frozen with the fear that a stranger had been and still could be in my house.
Then I woke with a start, my heart pounding in my chest, my eyes wide open staring at the unseen ceiling in the dark of my room. It took me a minute to work through it, but the whole thing had been a dream.
It took me a long time to fall asleep last night, though I’m not sure why. I was tired when I went to bed- I just couldn’t fall asleep.
Work stayed busy and put me off from doing some of the sales work I was planning on doing. I did go out to lunch today. Amanda’s grandparents, Peggy and Earl Lemons, were in town and they tend to invite us to a mall lunch when they come around. Anna Frazelle, Amanda’s aunt, showed up too. Her brother, Michael Mercer, showed up right after we mentioned him and Anna’s older daughter, Hannah Frazelle, showed up too right after we said something about her. It was kind of funny how that worked out.
I stopped by Dineen Animal Hospital after lunch and picked up flea and tick stuff for Bruce, Harvey and Mr. Cobblepott before heading back home to work until about 6:00.
We had made plans with Nick and Amy Warkentien to have dinner at their place because they’re heading out of town and wanted to get their weekly Dotsey fix. Amanda was tasked with picking up dessert and apologized when she came in. She said she knew I was going to be upset, but she’d picked up brownies. And they were Ghirardelli chocolate. And they had pieces of chocolate in them. To make matters worse she’d picked up some vanilla ice cream to go with them, and just because she’s such an awful wife, since the ice cream was buy one get one free, she also picked up some Twix ice cream. What a terrible, depraved wife I have.
We ate salad and shells with sauce over at the Warkentiens’ on their back patio. It was nice and cool outside, although Nick and I had our ankles snacked upon by insects. Oddly, we both got bit a bunch on our right ankles. Anyway, we had our terrible dessert then played Clue, which I don’t think I’ve played since I was twelve or so. Amy won.
Amanda and I came home and watched the season premiere of Supernatural. We got home at about her bedtime, but she was looking forward to seeing what became of Dean Winchester after he died and was dragged off to Hell, so she stayed up to watch it.
In case you’re wondering, (spoiler alert), an angel pulled him out of Hell because God has plans for him.
