Just about every year we spend the 4th of July in Lexington, Kentucky. It’s Baba’s birthday and it’s a convenient time for most of my dad’s side of the family to get together. This year everyone went early, and to be honest, even if everyone was going now I don’t think it would have been an easy trip for us to make with an almost-three week-old baby. Despite that, I miss the feeling of sitting out on the porch in the evening as the day’s humidity starts fading away with the daylight, visiting and hanging out with aunts and uncles and cousins (and of course, grandparents, or, well, grandparent, now) that I only get to see once a year.
This was a very low key July 4th. Amanda and I both went to bed around 9:00 last night, and Milly slept through the night pretty well. Amanda decided she’d like to go for a walk at Wrightsville Beach (but not yet on the beach with Milly), but we took a while getting ready. We did eventually get out there though and we had a nice walk. I called Baba to wish her a happy birthday and my parents to say hi.
With the frustration Amanda vented yesterday about being able to go out and do things, I skipped surfing with Michael and Lars in order to walk with her. She thought I’d be able to go out later, but I knew Michael had to work and wouldn’t be out much longer and Lars had to go pick up Kaitlyn (who was visiting her mother) before long, so I already figured I wouldn’t have anyone to go out with. Ah well.
All day long, off and on, I was watching The Revolution, a very well-made series about (you guess it, I’m sure) the American Revolution on the History Channel. I turned it on when we got home and watched it as Amanda finally gave me a haircut. I was seriously just about to the point of buzzing it.
That was pretty much our 4th of July this year. I bathed Milly and Amanda got in bed at 8:00. She fed Mills then we watched Wipeout before she went to sleep.
I’ve been behind on updating this site for a couple weeks now, but as of this very moment I’m actually, finally caught up! For any of you who check regularly, there are a few new things posted that go before the last Missy Warkentien update (which has been at the top of the page for a while now just because it had the most recent date of anything that was published), so you can go read all that if you really want to know everything that’s been up lately.
Now maybe I’ll upload all the pictures I’ve been meaning to upload and add some to a few of these posts. Nah- I’m typed out for now. Time to play a video game or something in honor of the freedom won for my life and the lives of all Americans.
That’s if Milly stays asleep, anyway. I’ve heard a few little noises on the baby monitor.
