Tattoos, Showers, and Steps

There’s been a ton going on in the last week or so, so I’m just going to list things without a whole lot of detail, even though several of them are pretty big. Last Thursday I received one a third of my belated birthday present, which was a new tattoo. My idea was to give my left arm to my kids. There was already a phoenix on my shoulder and upper arm, so I wanted to add a fox with a Guy Fawkes mask (because Fawkes’s name isn’t spelled Fox), a gryphon for our impending baby, and a snakeicorn for Milly. A what? A snakeicorn. It’s a creature Milly made up that is a snake with a horn and wings. …

Cake Faces

I usually don’t take Fawkes and Phoenix to Torrie’s on Wednesdays since I pick Milly up after school on Wednesdays and my thinking is that it’s already a day where I can’t sit and focus on work the whole time anyway, but she’s not going to be able to watch them tomorrow, so she took them today instead. Plus I’ve got a deadline that I’m trying to make, so I’m taking any time I can get. She did ask if I’d pick Sebastian up from his half-day school. It’s always fun seeing how surprised he is when I pick him up. I told him last time I picked him up that we couldn’t do lunch, but we’d do it the …

Bash’s Fourth Birthday Party and Room Change Day

I suppose I should get basketball out of the way first. The NCAA tournament started last week, with Duke’s first game coming on Friday night against North Dakota State. They won that one 85-62, but it wasn’t even that close really. Duke was only leading by four at the half, but they pushed it out to something over 30 points before Coach K put the bench in. They played against nine-seeded Central Florida tonight, and that one was a lot tougher than it should have been for the overall top one seed. They’re coached by former Duke player and assistant coach Johnny Dawkins, whose son had a monster game. The final score on that one was 77-76, and UCF had …

St. Patrick’s Day Weekend 2019

I just got off a video chat with my Irish cousin, Lucinda (she’s apparently one of the people who reads this site for some reason now and then, so everyone say hi to her!), which is about the most fitting thing I could have done on a St. Patrick’s Day, right? We’ve chatted Facebook Messenger before, but never actually spoke. One of the first things she commented on was how American I sounded. Later in the conversation she put me on the spot and had me do my Irish accent, which is not my strongest. She had me repeat a couple things after her, one meaning “My name is Zach” and the other meaning “Shut the door.” On the latter …

My 41st Birthday Week

There’s a good bit that’s been going on of late, and I have, as usual, been slacking on here, so I thought I’d try to sum up a bunch of it all in one post. We went to Rougemont last weekend. When my parents were here for the boys’ birthday, my dad said they were going to be doing an oyster roast the weekend before our birthday. (For you newcomers, I was born on my dad’s 22nd birthday.) I’m not an oyster fan, but there would be other food too. Plus they were taking down the back 70 feet of a barn and needed help with that. I’ll explain that a bit. My parents bought the property next to theirs …
