Snapped Leash

Went to church, picked up some bagels then came home for a bit.  Left a message for Andra but she never called back. Lazed about a bit- I was worn out from surfing and tired.  Went to Wrightsville anyway after a bit.  Michael came to our house to drop off some laundry and went out with us.  Water was rough and choppy.  Jackson was there again.  Another kid talked to me too.  Michael says I’m their mentor now.  They could do much better, if they want someone to teach them to surf. I went out and the leash detatch from my ankle.  Got smashed a second time and it snapped again so I took it in and traded up, but …

Surfing with Jackson

Got up, got to Wrightsville around 11:00, surfed most of that time until 4:00.  Because the Wahine Contest was being held in my surf spot there was very little area to surf in and that little area was crowded.  Mike and Kaitlyn Bosclajon were out there for a while, but Lars got frustrated.  Mike Ashcraft was out there too.  His daughter, Madison, was in the Wahine Contest.  Michael came a bit later. Talked to Andra and I thought Amanda and I were going to get Jackson tonight, but we didn’t.  Like taking away Christmas.  I was going to teach him to surf, have s’mores, buy him a comic book.  Met a different Jackson out surfing though, this eight year old …

Xbox 360 Controller Cord

Barry got me a copy of the Vampire Weekend CD and I was listening to it today.  It’s really good.  The songs that stand out the most to me are Oxford Comma and M79.  M79 I really like because of the use of strings in it. I was pretty busy this afternoon aside from a few e-mails with Amanda.  I called Mary Joe Quinn around noon to offer my condolences about John’s passing.  She told me how hard things had been in the few weeks since he’d been home- how he could hardly move except for his left arm and how it was difficult to move him around.  She gave me the awesome details about what happened right before he …

Surfing Safety Lesson

This morning, as I was driving down Harris Road to go surf at Wrightsville Beach at a little before 7 AM, I saw a number of police cars blocking off all the roads off of Harris.  I got to a checkpoint near Briarcliff Apartments, where my brother-in-law, Michael Mercer, lived until very recently.  I reached for my shorts to get my wallet (I was wearing my swimming trunks), but the officer said I didn’t need to show my license, glanced in my car and let me go.  Further down the road I saw K-9 units. It turns out that at about 5:00 this morning, as Tarica Pulliam, a detention officer, was walking to her car she suffered multiple gunshot wounds …

First Time Technical Directing

I got up at 5:30 this morning to go volunteer at Port City Community Church.  I guess I’ve been doing that for about three years now (Really – wow!) but this was the first time I’d done it in the new church building. When  the church was held at Roland-Grise Middle School there was equipment, props, info booths, video stuff, lighting rigs, video screens and all sorts of other things that needed to be set up, so volunteers arrived at 6am to get things ready for the first service, at 8:30.  Since none of that stuff had to happen anymore I wondered about the need to get there so early. Well, we started off with a production and band meeting …
